Worship Service for Peace, Renewal and Healing
(2525 W Vernon Ave Los Angeles, CA 90008-3927)

From: Rev. Dr. Clyde W. Oden, Jr., Senior Pastor, Bryant Temple

Dear Friend:

There comes a time when a people must declare: This far and no further. We have experienced too many deaths, too many shootings, and too much violence. The culture of violence and the conspiracy of silence or perhaps exhaustion of our compassion is troubling. We need to call on a power greater than our own – to address the issues of PEACE, RENEWAL AND HEALING.

Next Monday, caring people from throughout out community are going to gather and worship together, and pray together and lean on each other. Business as usual is not an option. Will you come and join us? We have invited everyone we know to come and stand together. Why wait for another march? Why wait for another vigil? Let’s stop being victims and let us join hands and hearts together.

Here are the details:

WHEN: MONDAY NIGHT – AUGUST 3, 2009

WHERE: Bryant Temple A.M.E. Church

WHO: A community that is tired of burying its young. A community tired of individual prayer vigils, and marches. A community of mothers and fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters and friends – sick and tired of being sick and tired!

WHAT: A Worship Service in which we are seeking God’s power for PEACE, RENEWAL AND

HEALING. There will be singing, praying and preaching. We have invited persons who have a special interest in the success of this service. They include our Community Intervention Professionals, Law Enforcement leaders, elected officials, and families who have been affected and infected by the problems of violence in our community. Finally, for the camera shy: The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS television) has asked to film this service. They are doing research into how various communities, particularly communities of faith are responding to the challenge of violence in the community. It is our prayer that the presence of cameras will not dampen your enthusiasm for this event.
