Multi-Organization Conference: Fighting for LA’s Schools
(Asian Pacific American Legal Center at Wilshire/Lucas)
[From Noah Lippe-Klein]
This weekend's Multi-Organization Conference is an attempt to bring together individual activists/organizers and members from some of the most active organizations over the last 8 months in the struggle to stop the budget cuts and layoffs.
As a reminder, the Conference is NOT happening at UTLA. Instead, it will be at the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, which is on the northeast corner of Wilshire and Lucas. Free parking available on the roof of the building.
Conference is from 9-3 on Saturday and 9-1 on Sunday. The lineup for each day looks great so we are excited to see you.
Saturday will include an analysis and strategy session on Yolie's motion, broad school reform and the next round of budget cuts. We will look into various strategies that include both the role of a fighting UTLA and
real community organizing. Sunday will include a panel of 5 teachers who organize at their schools, in the community. The panelists will lay out different approaches to organizing allowing participants to grapple with advantages and disadvantages of various methods. We will conclude Sunday by looking at where our forces can take the struggle, how to work together, how to expand our influence in educational justice.
