Protest: Justice 4 Oscar Grant

[Via Indy Media Center - Los Angeles]

Peace family,

Protest on the 1st Day of Court for officer Johannes Mehserle, killer of Oscar Grant!

Friday, January 8, 2010

7am-10am

@ Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center

210 West Temple St (at corner of Hill St)
Downtown Los Angeles, CA

It's time to stand up and DEMAND JUSTICE for Oscar Grant, his family, and all victims of police killings and brutality!

One year ago, Oscar Grant was murdered in Oakland by transit police officer Johannes Mehserle. Several witnesses caught it on film.

The trial has been brought to Los Angeles because the judge and defense lawyers agree that there would be too much public BIAS because too many area residents have seen the footage - and are OUTRAGED! In other words, they think they can outrun the truth.

THIS FRIDAY 1/8, we're gonna show them that the people demand justice!
The community of Los Angeles will stand together in solidarity with the Oakland community saying enough is enough! It's time for accountability in the justice system!

Our sisters and brothers in Oakland are still out there marching.

Oscar's family and supporters are coming down from Oakland for this too. If you can offer anything to help them cover transportation costs, housing, etc. please email the Oscar Grant Trial Committee @ trialcommittee@anomie.info

We are all Oscar Grant! We demand justice!

Natural History Museum’s First Fridays - 5:30pm
(Natural History Museum, 900 Exposition Boulevard)

First Fridays is culture in the making. From January 8 through June 4, 2010, First Fridays returns.

Each evening, the entire Museum stays open until 10 pm and features live music, exciting scientific discussion, and custom curatorial tours. Since its inception in September 2004, First Fridays has been enjoyed as an immersive program which brings together a dynamic discussion and performance series at the Natural History Museum bridging contemporary science, culture and individual experience. Designed for young and adult audiences, audiences have enjoyed discussions with innovative scientists such as Neil Shubin, Donald Johanson and Daniel Dennett and performances by dynamic artists like Sea Wolf, Deerhoof, Wolfmother, Mountain Goats, and Z-Trip.

SEASON 6: JANUARY 8 - JUNE 4, 2010
No Place like Home: The Science of Southern California

Author Ross MacDonald once wrote "There's nothing wrong with Southern California that a rise in the ocean level wouldn't cure." And Andy Warhol, during his more than 15 minutes of fame, said "I love Los Angeles. I love Hollywood. They're beautiful. Everybody's plastic, but I love plastic."

Southern California often gets a bad rap, but First Fridays is here to defend it. This season, six of the region's top scientists will be discussing the cutting edge of science on issues of importance to Southern Californians and the rest of the world, both today and into the future. If you are interested in earthquakes or emotions, energy or ecosystems, engineering spider webs or enormous black holes, join us for First Fridays in 2010. Believe us, there really is no place like home.
