A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Ebony Repertory Theatre will present "A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center. This event is the theater's second annual, one-night- only celebration that will feature noted actors, musicians and a gospel choir performing inspirational excerpts from King's words, speeches and songs sung throughout the Civil Rights Movement. Admission to this event is $15 and $8 for children under 12.

The 16th Annual Community Day Extravaganza

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Multi-Faith Clergy Council and the HOPE for Life Foundation sponsor an event that for sixteen years has been uplifting and empowering their community.
On Saturday, January 16th, on Manchester in between Vermont and Western, the event offers hundreds of vital community resource booths, constructive activities for kids and everyone goes home with bags of food and handfuls of brand new clothing.
The16th Annual Community Day extravaganza is on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 8 am until 3pm at 1426 W. Manchester Blvd.

The Baobab Project—Writing Letters to Political Prisoners
(AFIBA Center, 5730 S. Crenshaw Blvd., Los Angeles)
The Baobab Project will meet Jan. 16, 5 p.m., at the AFIBA Center, 5730 S. Crenshaw Blvd., between Slauson Avenue and 57th Street.
People will write letters/ cards to send to political prisoners/prisoners of war within the United States and the study subjects will be Sundiata Acoli and Herman Bell, both of whom have birthdays on Jan. 14.
The purpose of the project is to break down the alienation and the isolation these prisoners are subjected to by providing a lifeline to the “outside” world.
