Henry Waxman to deliver lecture at UCLA
(UCLA Faculty Center)
WHAT:
U.S. Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D–Calif.) will deliver the 23rd annual Bollens–Ries–Hoffenberg lecture at UCLA, "How Congress Is Helping to Meet the Challenges of Our Time."
Waxman, who has served in Congress since 1975, is chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is at the center of current debates on health care reform, financial regulation and global warming. He is the author, with Joshua Green, of the critically acclaimed new book "The Waxman Report: How Congress Really Works" (Grand Central Publishing, 2009).
Waxman is former chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and the Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Health and the Environment. Prior to his election to Congress, he served three terms in the California Assembly. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from UCLA and a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law.
"We are deeply honored to have a public servant of Henry Waxman's stature and experience to deliver this year's lecture," said former Los Angeles County Supervisor Edmund D. Edelman, chairman of the lecture committee. "Again and again over his 34-year career, Congressman Waxman has succeeded, often against long odds, in getting Congress to do what's right."
