Immigration reform panel (8:30-10:30 am)
(The California Endowment @ 1000 N. Alameda Street, Los Angeles, 90012 (2nd Floor in Conference Room C))
"Immigration Reform: How to Reform a Broken System in Polarized Times and Limited Political Will"
The Obama Administration indicated last year that immigration reform is the next big policy issue to be addressed after healthcare. With Sunday's vote in Congress and immigration rallies here in California and our nation's capitol over the weekend, Coro has put together a panel on what may or may not happen with our broken immigration system.
WHO: Hon. José Huizar, Los Angeles City Councilmember, 14th District; Antonio González, President of the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project and the William C. Velasquez Institute; Stuart Hurlbert, Board of Directors for Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS); and Thomas Elias, syndicated political columnist (appearing twice weekly in 93 California newspapers, with a circulation over 2.3 million) and author.
Moderated by Teresa Watanabe, Staff Writer covering immigration for the Los Angeles Times.
MORE: A light breakfast and coffee will be provided. There is no cost to attend but space is limited to 35 so please R.S.V.P. @ eheadington@coro.org. The event will be recorded and tweeted, and footage will also be made available the following Monday. (Parking will be hosted but it is only 2 blocks away from Union Station--and across the street from a Dash stop.)
