Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a plan to join the University of California to reopen the Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital in South Los Angeles. The hospital was closed in 2007 after failing medical inspections. County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas campaigned on the deal and said the hospital will serve communities beyond South Los Angeles.
