Intersections: The South Los Angeles Report is a community news web site dedicated to covering South Los Angeles and surrounding areas, with contributions from residents, high school students and journalism students from the USC Annenberg School for Communication.
Intersections represents a new approach to journalism and news coverage. Community residents are encouraged to be active contributors in shaping news content, providing news items in a variety of forms, from video, photographs, opinion pieces, on-the-ground reporting, and entries to our community calendar. Our goal is to create a two-way conversation between residents living in South LA, Inglewood, Watts, Compton and other communities south of downtown Los Angeles and the journalists covering these neighborhoods.
This multimedia news site, supported by the USC Annenberg School for Communication, is also designed to train high school students at South Los Angeles high schools through Intersections' media literacy program. USC journalism students are currently mentoring students at Crenshaw and Dorsey High Schools in the production of media projects.
We are also dedicated -- through our reporting and writing classes at the USC Annenberg School of Journalism -- to train a new generation of journalists to cover news with cultural awareness and sophistication.
We hope you will come to view Intersections: The South Los Angeles Reporting Project as a portal to South Los Angeles. Use your reporting and ours – along with the links we provide to other South LA-based news organizations and institutions -- as a resource to one of the nation’s most vibrant urban centers.
