Gay marriage advocates celebrate victory
Opponents of Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California, turned out to celebrate at vigils across Los Angeles after the law was struck down Wednesday as un-Constitutional.On Olvera Street, the mood was jubilant. Various minority and faith leaders spoke of what they called "a civil rights victory."
Supporters of the ban have said they will appeal the decision, which they are seeking a stay against. The decision is on hold until Friday, when Judge Vaughn Walker is expected to rule whether same-sex marriages should be permitted pending appeals.
