BREAKING: Alleged bomb threatens Manual Arts High School

The suspected pipe bomb found in a restroom at Manual Arts High School Wednesday morning has been rendered safe.

Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations said the bomb squad is still evaluating the bomb.

A spokesperson from the Los Angeles Unified School District said the school is still under safety patrol. Students were dismissed from 42nd Street, and a tape recorded message was sent to parents to update them about the dismissal and assure them of their children's safety.

A possible pipe bomb was discovered in a Manual Arts High School restroom Wednesday morning.

Police arrived at the high school at 10:50 am, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department. A police department spokesperson confirmed that the bomb squad remains at the school.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the bomb squad was identifying the alleged explosive and would disable it if necessary.

Manual Art's 2,000 students and staff members were evacuated to the school's athletic fields.

Traffic, as well as Metropolitan Transit Authority bus services, have been re-routed away from the school.
