The sound of customers haggling over prices is common at farmers markets across the city. Now, the Central Avenue neighborhood has one to call their own.
The newly constructed Ninth District Neighborhood City Hall welcomed the Central Avenue Farmer’s Market to its new home Thursday. Councilwoman Jan Perry’s office sponsors the market. Her representative Eva Behrend says the market hopes to attract shoppers with its wide variety of goods and relaxed atmosphere.
Beginning in April, Central Avenue will be the first farmers market to accept cash-value vouchers from the WIC program. This federally funded heath care program for women, infants, and children will allow WIC families to shop at the market on a monthly basis.
The Central Avenue Farmers Market is open every Thursday from noon until 5 PM, rain or shine.
