A popular youth soccer club draws on the growing Latino presence in Compton. The club, founded by Compton resident Mike Herman, features mentoring by major league soccer stars and fellowship beyond the field. Now in the process of raising money to finance a trip to a youth tournament next summer in South Africa, Compton United also helps youth with academics and acquiring life skills. Those, as Trishna Patel reports, are just as important as scoring goals.
