Debbie Allen Dance Academy hosts Hip Hop Dance Battle

imageFriday nights are meant for fun and that’s exactly what everyone experiences at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA) during the "Hip Hop Intensive" class. Located right in the heart of the Crenshaw District inside the lot of the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, DADA offers kids and adults from every walk of life an opportunity to express themselves through the art of dance: ballet, tap, modern, jazz, hip hop, African, Dunham and Flamenco. The academy also offers special seminars in voice and musical theater.

Founded by dance extraordinaire Debbie Allen, the Academy is a cultural center for the dance community of Los Angeles.

imageDave Scott, who choreographed the film “You Got Served” and is the Director of the L.A. Hip Hop Festival, held a week long intensive with DADA students, which culminated with a battle as well as a performance recital held on Sunday, June 27 at Beverly Hills High School.

Performance night was all about the battle and the definite crowd pleasers had to be the Early Birds. Early Birds are children ages 4 to 7 years old and — although not quite as coordinated with the dance moves as the older students — the confidence and showmanship displayed was heartwarming to say the least. There’s nothing like being entertained by young people who have not yet learned to be self-conscious and just give it their all.

imageCelebrating 10 years of serving the community, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy welcomes people of all ages who want to experience what it means to dance! Go to www.debbieallendanceacademy.com for more information or call (310) 280-9145. Summer intensive classes start July 3.
