When Haiti was rocked by a deadly earthquake, the whole world took notice. Unfortunately, short attention spans and more recent seismic activity have shifted attention away from Haiti. Despite billions in aid, many Haitians still lack basic essentials like food and shelter. In the state of Petit Goave, the Association Enfants dans le Desert d’Haiti Orphanage lies in ruins.

Wini Jackson is a Los Angeles activist trying to raise awareness and money to help the displaced orphans, many of whom now sleep in the mud. Some of the children must wander around in search of food everyday, lacking the most basic essentials. Jackson was shocked to learn that after all the money and attention given to Haiti, many victims living outside the capital city have yet to receive aid. Ariel Pratt of Annenberg Radio News spoke to Jackson about her efforts. Listen to her story below:

On Friday, April 30 at 6:30 p.m., Fernando Pullum, director of the Fernando Pullum Performing Arts School, will hold a performance featuring talented students from around Los Angeles at Paradise Baptist Church. Funds raised from this performance will help an orphanage in Haiti in dire need of food and other supplies. The money will go directly to the orphanage; volunteers will deliver supplies in person.
