Mapping LA’s public art

Dotted throughout Los Angeles, hidden in parks and hoisted above street corners, the story of the city emerges through its public art. Now a non-profit organization has taken up the task of mapping these community creations along with information about the creators themselves. Mapping Los Angeles Public Art (MLAPA) aims to compile a "fully digitized, documented, cataloged, indexed, and photographed virtual map of all Public Art located throughout Los Angeles County and its surrounding areas." The website includes an interactive map and photo gallery, as well as a project called "Travelin' Local" that uses contributions from community members to add to the public art database.

Public Art in Los Angeles has the unique capacity to bring the experience of art to a broad and diverse group of citizens by engaging the active urban landscape.
