Protest against Sheriff Department’s immigration agreement
Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act authorizes the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to enter into agreements to permit state and local law enforcement officers to perform enforce immigration law enforcement functions and receive training from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. The LAPD does not participate in the program, but the L.A. County Sheriff's Department does. Immigration activists say it causes problems for immigrant communities and leads to racial profiling. Stephanie Guzman of Annenberg Radio News reports.
