South Los Angeles students to visit White House
We are pleased to announce that on Friday, September 17, 2010, students from the Crenshaw High School Digital Media Team along with ‘Cooking Live with Dorsey High’ culinary arts members will visit First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move nutrition team and President Obama’s Web team at the White House. The meetings are part of an effort to establish a partnership that will help extend the reach of these White House initiatives. The students’ White House visit will take place exactly one year from the launch date of the “Journey to the White House” campaign and officially kicks off its back-to-school activities for the coming school year. Mother Of Many, the campaign sponsor, is a grassroots non-profit organization supporting the First Lady’s Let’s Move initiative and the President’s Proclamation on Childhood Obesity, the Crenshaw High School Digital Media Team and Cooking Live with Dorsey High culinary arts members.
“The President’s recent proclamation making September 2010 National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month is perfect timing for both of our September 17th meetings at the White House!” said Daphne Bradford, founder of Mother of Many. “Partnering with a non-profit educational organization like Mother Of Many is what the First Lady is asking for and we’re ready to move with Mrs. Obama just like we see local DC area kids planting and cooking in the White House garden and kitchen.”
Ready to join the Let’s Move effort to beat childhood obesity with M.O.M. are teachers, parents, community organizations and corporate partners such as the Squid & Squash Foundation, Ogilvy and Mather Los Angeles, the National Association of Letter Carriers Angel City Branch 24 and everyday people who have already donated and pledged their support to M.O.M.’s efforts to partner with President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and the White House Office of Public Engagement.
