Teachers protest budget cuts
About 100 parents, teachers, and even some students huddled under umbrellas, walked a mile in the rain Tuesday to protest budget cuts and public schools being turned into charter schools. They started out at Pio Pico, a K-8 school, that was going to move its elementary students to a new school being built just a couple blocks away.
Now, the new school may be turned into a charter school. It's up to Los Angeles Schools Superintendent Ramon Cortines to make that decision. Rosie Mora, a 3rd grade teacher at Pio Pico, says if it becomes a charter students at Pio Pico will not get a new school, and some teachers could get pink slips around March 15th.
