The 50 million pound challenge comes to Compton Unified School District

The Compton Unified School District kicked off their own version of the 50 Million Pound Challenge, a nationwide weight loss program created by TV star Dr. Ian Smith. 275 faculty and staff are participating in the 12 week competition, which includes mandatory work outs and weekly weigh ins. The team of five with the most weight loss by percentage will be awarded cash by the competition's sponsor, Dickerson Employee Benefits. The district launched the competition in an effort to combat the area’s unusually high obesity numbers. Schuyler Kenney of Annenberg Radio News has the story:
