The Los Angeles Police Department gets a new chief


Mayor Villaraigosa conducted extensive interviews with three LAPD-insider candidates. He decided on Charlie Beck, who had his first chance Tuesday to address the media and the public about taking over for Chief William Bratton. Beck thanked the mayor and the police commission, and he became emotional as he thanked his family, whose service to the LAPD goes back 60 years. Richie Duchon of Annenberg Radio News reports.







Mayor Villaraigosa and Chief-designate Beck will hold town hall meetings over the next few days to talk meet members of the community and listen to concerns.
