UC Regents approve deal to re-open MLK Hospital

The Martin Luther King Junior Medical Center closed in 2007 after it failed a series of inspections. It left a health care void in South Los Angeles. With money lined up from a local billionaire, the UC Board of Regents on board to provide staff, it's now up to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to approve the deal. Under the plan, the hospital will construct 120 beds and an emergency center by 2012. Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, who has championed the re-opening of the hospital, celebrated today with supporters in front of the hospital. Leilani Albano of Annenberg Radio News was there and has this report.
